Spinning Arpin
Company founded in Seez in 1817, in the heart of the Tarentaise, in a unique place and on machines classified as historical heritage, la Filature Arpin selects, sorts, washes, dyes, cards, spins, and weaves wool to give birth to the famous Bonneval sheet. These operations, handed down from generation to generation for almost 200 years, are carried out by master woolen craftsmen and weavers. The garment workshop, anxious to mix this heritage and modern techniques, produces Arpin products or any custom order.
The House of Craftsmen and Heritage
In Seez, the visitor discovers the work of many craftsmen and artists of Savoy grouped in association for more than 20 years. In a wide variety of materials and colors, the works on display reflect a talent and know-how of high quality. Different pieces are presented: wood, wrought iron, furniture, art paintings, pottery, watercolors, jewelry, furnishing fabrics, decorations, sculptures, cut paper … On the first floor are objects of Savoyard heritage. The Maison des Artisans also offers workshops, internships and temporary exhibitions during the summer.
The Favre Tannery
Located in a small village at the bottom of the Tarentaise valley, in Séez, two centuries of skin work, the Tannerie Favre has been in the family since 1805. The family heritage and the duty to maintain the local artisanal fabric mean that Philippe Favre continues to bring this Tannery to life. Admittedly, it has not tanned since the 1980s, but you can still smell the good smell of leather permeated in the walls. Philippe still works with leather since he devotes himself to a specialty of saddlery: bell mounting. This secular activity in this region of breeding consists in manufacturing decorating and adapting the leather straps to the bells traditionally worn by Tarine or abundance cows. He created a small museum in the basement, in the old workshop, and offers in his shop all kinds of bell, skins and articles made of skins.
